Rohde & Schwarz released new oscilloscope portfolio

Source: http://testtek.com/en/detail-info.php?id=2160

Rohde & Schwarz will present its complete and enhanced oscilloscope portfolio at the embedded world 2015 exhibition in Nuremberg. The high definition mode increases the vertical resolution of the R&S RTO and R&S RTE digital oscilloscopes to up to 16 bits, a 256 fold improvement over the 8 bit resolution available in standard mode.

To achieve this higher definition, the signal is low-pass-filtered directly after the A/D converter. The digital filter reduces the noise, while increasing the signal-to-noise ratio. The higher resolution provides sharper waveforms, showing signal details that would otherwise be masked by noise.

Rohde & Schwarz has added a new model with 200 MHz bandwidth to its R&S RTM bench oscilloscope family. The history and segmented memory option, which expands the maximum memory depth to an unprecedented 460 Mega sample per channel, is available for all bandwidth models.

This deep, segmented memory is especially beneficial for seamless analysis of data sequences with long rest periods such as pulsed signals and serial I2C bus data packets. The digital voltmeter option is also new. It enables the R&S RTM to measure various values such as AC, DC, peak and crest factor with three digit accuracy regardless of the oscilloscope's triggering. The scope now features a seven digit frequency counter as well.

The multiple triggering and decoding as well as compliance test options from Rohde & Schwarz support a broad range of users in design verification, commissioning, debugging and compliance testing.

The R&S RTE and R&S RTO oscilloscope series offer users in the automotive market triggering and decoding analysis solutions for the high speed CAN flexible data (CAN-FD) bus protocol. An option for the R&S RTO supports compliance tests of automotive BroadR-Reach Ethernet interfaces.

For mobile communications and embedded designs, Rohde & Schwarz recently enhanced the capabilities of the R&S RTO by adding two new options for analysing MIPI RFFE and USB 1.0/1.1/ 2.0 interfaces. Another innovation is the automated MIPI D-PHY compliance test option for developers of smartphone components and wireless devices with MIPI D PHY implementation.

Fanless operation, 1 Msample memory depth and a realtime sampling rate of 1 Gsample/s are the key features of the new entry level R&S HMO1002 mixed signal oscilloscope from Rohde & Schwarz. With a vertical sensitivity of 1 mV/div and integrated 128k point FFT, it performs far above standard scopes in this price segment. The R&S HMO1002 enables users to benefit from many practical features such as a pattern generator for embedded developers, an integrated digital voltmeter for service and maintenance technicians and special functions for the education sector.

Understanding phase noise in signal generators

Source:  http://www.testtek.com/en/detail-info.php?id=2151 Signal generators manufacturers set great store by specifying phase noise, such that, regardless of the application, phase noise is frequently taken as a proxy of the equipment's overall performance. However, phase noise performance might have little or no affect in some applications. For example, 'close in' phase noise creates problems when the signal generator is used as a local oscillator, limiting its sensitivity or impairing bit error rate (BER) performance if used as a clock. 'Far out' phase noise, on the other hand, affects wideband communications systems by raising the noise floor and limiting the reception of poor signals. Choosing a signal generator to match phase noise performance to the requirements of the application can be difficult as manufacturers often characterise phase noise performance at different carrier wave frequencies and at different offsets from the carrier signal. ...

What is Internet of Things (IoT)?

Source:  http://testtek.com/en/detail-info.php?id=2139 The  Internet of Things  ( IoT , sometimes  Internet of Everything ) is the network of physical objects or "things" embedded with electronics, software, sensors and connectivity to enable it to achieve greater value and service by exchanging data with the manufacturer, operator and/or other connected devices based on the infrastructure of International Telecommunication Union's Global Standards Initiative.  Internet of Things connect physically and remotely by individuals, for both public sector and private sector,  in the sense of a computer network grid, of a created electrical device that is in place, with economic benefit and potential usefulness.  Each thing is uniquely identifiable through its embedded computing system but is able to interoperate within the existing  Internet  infrastructure. Experts estimate that the IoT will consist of almost 50 billion obj...

Five reasons why ElectroMagnetic Compatibility testing should start early

Source: http://testtek.com/en/detail-info.php?id=2141 You have built a great product that meets market demands. You are confident that it radiates little energy and is not susceptible to outside interference, yet when you reach final EMC testing stage, your product fails. This is the nightmare scenario for most of us product designers. The cost of testing was already high, but re-testing will stretch the planned budget and slow down the entire project. The misplaced confidence that has led to a failed compliance test means that design engineers need to find out why the product failed and how to fix it. To avoid this scenario, pre-compliance testing should not be considered as an add-on to the end of a project. Instead compliance testing should be built into a project from day one. In the software testing industry, there is a move to shift testing left and introduce it earlier in the product development lifecycle. Likewise, this thinking is moving to the electr...
